Description

After a fire destroyed the first County Courthouse in 1896 court business was conducted in the local Coleman Hotel until funds from PWA of $100,000 was acquired and the new courthouse was completed in 1935. Architect Forrest Butler from Oklahoma City, who also designed the courthouses in Latimer County, Pontotoc County and Pushmataha County, designed a two story brick and concrete structure that faces south. Sam S. Laughlin of Oklahoma City was the construction company hired to build the large structure. The east and west wings were added in 1985 at a cost of $3.7 million.
