Description:

The Beggs gymnasium is a single-story, rectangular (98′ x 59′) structure constructed of coursed and rusticated native stone of buff color. The roof is arched with stepped parapets on each end. The windows contain concrete lentils and sills. The entryway is covered by a concrete addition to the building. The window openings have been filled in with concrete. There is a smaller addition attached to the east side as well. These alterations do not impeach the architectural integrity of the building.
In 1938, it was said that this gymnasium was the largest in Okmulgee County. Construction of this gym provided jobs for destitute workers badly in need of some type of economic security. It also enhanced educational opportunities and recreational facilities in Beggs. The structure is unique in terms of type, style, materials, workmanship, and most notably, scale.
