Description:

A four room building initially, the Buck Creek school is a single story, rectangular (45′ x 75′) structure constructed of undressed and uncoursed native sandstone. The roof is hipped, and front and side doors are recessed. Window openings have been closed with wood inserts and new sash metal windows installed. The more energy-efficient window alterations do not impeach the integrity of the structure.
The school building is significant because it constituted the genesis of modern education in an area previously serviced by a dilapidated wood-frame structure with small windows that admitted little light. Its construction also helped to alleviate some of the economic effects of the depression in that it provided work opportunities for unskilled and unemployed laborers too long on relief rolls. Architecturally the building is unique in the community because of its type, style, scale, materials and workmanship. A well maintained residence, it is an excellent example of adaptive reuse.

VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: From Panama go west on its main east-west street, also a paved county road, two and one-half miles.
