Description:

The Butner School is a ten-room, single story, rectangular (164′ x 64′) structure constructed of brick. It has a flat roof with parapets that have piers on the ends. Entry- ways are recessed and windows have concrete sills. Some window openings have enclosed with bricks. Unfortunately the entire front has been obscured by the construction of another building parallel to the WPA structure and joined to it at entryways.
Including three structures nominated to the National Register and the ten room school building, the Cromwell campus of Butner School represents a complete educational unit. That completeness makes it unique, as does its quality masonry. Literally modern education came to Cromwell with the WPA. Construction also provided jobs to destitute workers.

Unable to determine the original structure. There is WPA wall at the location.

VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: Situated in Block 34, Cromwell original.
