Grandstand

Description:

The Lindsay Grandstand is rectangular (23′ x 123′) and constructed of poured concrete. The superstructure, which rises nine tiers and is of more recent date, apparently, has been filled in with brick work. A sheet metal garage has been added to the back side of the facility and a press box has been constructed on the top. All the alterations have impaired the physical appearance of the structure, at least from the exterior.
The principal significance of the structure is that construction of it provided jobs to individuals made destitute by the depression and that it is a good symbol of the broad interpretation given to “useful public works” by the WPA administration.

VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: Southwest of the intersection of 9th and Chickasaw streets in the NW 1/4 of Sec. 10, T 4 N, R 4 W.
