Description:

This school is rectangular shaped (28′ x 42′) and constructed of native limestone laid in a cobweb pattern with beaded mortar. Cut stones are at the corners, quoin-like, giving the structure more stability. It has a gabled roof with a small center gable that extends above the single door, recessed front entry, which also has a concrete linte 1. Windows on the front facade are singly placed wooden sash with concrete sills; two have been completely covered by wooden insets. Band windows on the rear of the structure have been altered with wooden insets and smaller window replacements. An new aluminum awning covers the windows on the front facade. These alterations and a cinder block on the south end of the structure have not impaired the integrity of the building.
This school is significant because it constituted an economically important community resource. Its construction provided wages for local families in an amount equal to some 8400 man-hours of labor which were infused back into the depressed local economy. Jobs generated by the construction of the school restored a sense of pride to many men who might otherwise have been unable to provide for their families. The school has served for many years as an educational facility for children of the community. Architecturally the structure is significant for its cobweb style masonry, quoin features, and dark limestone construction material.[1]
