Description:

The historic post office in Poteau, Oklahoma was constructed with federal Treasury Department funds. The building, which houses New Deal artwork inside, was constructed in 1936-7 and is still in use today.

A one story building with basement. Limestone surrounds distinguish the entrance and windows. Low-relief propeller designs decorate the walls above the windows. Limestone sill and lintel courses surround the building. 1940 Mural “Cotton” by Joan Cunningham hangs on the north wall.
