Description:
The Cleo Springs City Park Stone Fence is an L-shaped fence (180′ x 2′ x 255′ x 2′) constructed of uncut and random native stone with a jagged top resembling battlements. The fence rises from a height of three and one-half feet to six feet on either side of the entrance located on the north side. The stone fence retains its architectural integrity.
Significantly, construction of the Cleo Springs City Park and Stone Fence provided desperately needed employment to approximately 15 jobless workers of this agricultural community during the Depression. In addition, the project created a recreational area for the city which also stimuulated local civic pride. As a WPA structure, the stone fence is notable in terms of its type, style, materials, and workmanship. Within the community, the fence is unique for its type and materials.[1]
VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: Starting at the NW corner of the SW 1/4 of Sec. 1, T 22 N, R 12 W thence south 720 feet, thence west 320 feet, thence south 400 feet, thence west 260 feet, thence north 1160 feet to the point of beginning.
