Description:

This school of four or more rooms is a single-story, rectangular (79′ x 67′) structure constructed of cut, coursed, and rusticated native stone of buff color. The roof is gabled and the entry is recessed beneath a center gable. All doors are topped with sheet metal. The windows, that reach to the eaves, have green plastic and/or sheet metal inserts. An addition has been attached to the back of the building. These alterations impeach the integrity of the structure.
SIGNIFICANCE: 1938; builder/architect: unknown
Building this school created educational opportunities in a remote and rural area. The WPA project also gave work to those desperately in need of it during the depths of the depression when employment opportunities were rare. Architecturally, the building is unique in this area in terms of type, style, scale, materials, and workmanship.
