Description:

The Kingston Elementary School is a single-story, essentially rectangular (213′ x 127′) structure with two projections from the rear of the structure, i.e. an auditorium and additional classrooms. The latter is sublevel with a sublevel entry. The structure is constructed of brick and has a flat roof except the auditorium, which has a high arched roof. Parapets are capped with concrete blocks. The main entry is recessed and is framed by pre-formed concrete jambs and lintel. The windows, generally placed by threes, are casement and have concrete sills. The building has an addition on the west end, but it does not destroy the integrity of the structure. Brick friezes add decorative relief to the structures.

The Kingston Elementary School is unique for its scale, type, style, and workmanship. Built at a time of severe economic depression, it is doubtful that it could have been built without federal assistance. Its construction provided jobs for many unemployed laborers whose self-esteem was preserved by being able to stay off the dole and improved educational processes by providing an environment conducive to education.
