Description:
The Red Rock Pumphouse is a single-story, rectangular (33′ x 21 ‘) structure constructed of coursed, cut concrete blocks. The gable roof is made of metal and is in poor condition. The entrance is located on the southeast end of the structure and consists of double wood doors and a concrete slab. Wood sash windows are single spaced. Although the building has been gutted, it retains much of its architectural integrity and could be restored to its original condition.
Still in use today, the Red Rock Pumphouse is representative of the WPA projects concerned with providing efficient waterworks systems to rural and drought-stricken western communities. Construction of the building created temporary jobs for unemployed workers during the Depression, and assisted in the growth of civic pride. As a WPA project, the pumphouse is significant for its type and style. Within the community, the building is unique in terms of its type.[1]
VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: A strip of land 25 feet in width, the center line of which is described as follows: beginning at a point 12 1/2 feet east of the SW corner of the SE 1/4 of Sec. 15, T 23 N, R 1 E and then run due north 269 feet, then north 35.00 for 792.8 feet to the west boundary of the waterworks plant site and containing 1/2 acre. Also, a tract of land from the SW corner of the SE 1/4 of Sec. 15, T 23 N, R 1 E running north 269 feet, then due east 12 1 /2 feet, then north 35.00 east for 792.8 feet, then north 71.02 west for 19 feet to point of beginning, then north 32.38 east for 126.6 feet, then north 86.04 east for 97 .4 feet, then south 11.51 east for 84.8 feet, then north 71.02 west for 147 .6 feet to point of beginning.
