Description:
This school of two rooms is a single-story, rectangular (69′ x 36′) building constructed of cut, coursed, and rusticated native stone of buff color. The roof is gabled. The entrance has a center gable with the doors recessed behind two archways. A large window opening now filled with wood separates the two arches. The north, west, and south sides each have a round shutter at the eaves. The window openings, than reach to the eaves, have new aluminumframed panes. These alterations do not impeach the architectural integrity of the building.
Construction of this school provided work opportunities for unemployed and unskilled laborers in a rural and remote area where few previously existed and enabled the WPA to infuse wages of some 20,000 man-hours of labor into the local economy. It also created a new environment conducive to learning for children theretofore deprived educationally. The entrance to the school makes this building unique in this part of Oklahoma as a WPA structure. The type, style, materials, and workmanship also give it uniqueness.[1]
