Description:
A building of two rooms, the Plainview School is a single-story, rectangular (48′ x 28′) structure constructed of coursed and rusticated native stone. The roof is gabled with a center dormer over the double-door entrance. Some windows are located above the two-door entryway. This front part of the structure has no other windows. The back of the building has no windows, while the south side has two sets of windows placed in groups of three with wooden frames, lentils, and sills. The north side has one window of the same style. The stone has been painted white and a garage opening has been made in the north side wall, all of which impeaches the architectural integrity of the building.
This school is unique in terms of materials, scale, workmanship, and especially style and type. No other WPA school found in this part of Oklahoma looks like this one; it is most unique. Construction of it provided some economic security to destitute, unskilled, and unemployed workers in this rural and remote area. It is most significant because it created a new environment conducive to learning for children theretofore deprived educationally.
VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: Go south of Henryetta on county road 2.5 miles then east on county road 1/2 mile then south on county road 1/2 mile to the school site on property beginning at the SE corner of the SE 1/4, NE 1/4, thence north 382 feet, thence west 320 feet, thence south 382 feet, thence east 320 feet to the point of beginning, in NE 1/4 of Sec. 26, T 11 N, R 12 E.
