Description:
WPA work in Boy Scout Park consists of a wading pool and bathhouse, four regulation tennis courts, and three picnic tables. The Bathhouse is a single-story, rectangular shaped (33′ x 17′) building constructed of untooled and uncoarsed native sandstone. It has a hipped roof and central dogtrot. Windows have been blocked in with cinder block and have stone sills. The wading pool, 48 feet in diameter, and the surrounding apron are constructed of poured concrete. Two tennis courts are located to the north and two to the south of the bathhouse.
The WPA work at Boy Scout Park had a twofold purpose: to provide the city of Shawnee with more recreational facilities and to create jobs for unemployed men of the area. The bathhouse is unique to Shawnee because of its materials, type, style, and the nature of the workmen who built it.
