Municipal Auditorium
Description
Large brick building covering half a city block was built in 1936 (plaque on cornerstone) by the WPA with a grant of $61,363 and a municipal bond issue of $75,000. Use over the years for everything such as dances, conventions, sporting events, concerts, etc.
The high-ceiling, gymnasium-like auditorium has concrete bleachers along three sides and a full stage on the north end. The two building wings have offices and are the home of the Shawnee Senior Center and the Shawnee Economic Development organization (COEDD).[2]
