Description:
The WPA helped construct this course. According to author Del Lemon, a worker recalled in 1993: “I was the top man on the totem pole. I got 15 cents and hour for driving a team of mules. They were paying 10 cents an hour for labor then. It was the height of the Depression and every Monday morning men would be lined up for a mile down Peoria Street, shoulder to shoulder, wanting a job.”[2]
