Description:
Designed as a two-room and gymnasium/auditorium school facility, the Stone Bluff building is rectangular (ca •. 53′ x 89′) in shape and constructed from uncut and unrusticated native sandstone randomly laid. The roof is gable and the front entry is recessed behind an archway. Window openings on both the east and west sides reach to the eaves; unfortunately, on the east the openings have been enclosed with native rock. The latter alteration has impacted the integrity of the building.
SIGNIFICANCE: 1939-1940; architect/builder: unknown
The floor plan of the building is unique in that it contains in one structure two classrooms and a gymnasium. Ordinarily WPA buildings of this size are of the four classroom/interior hall variety. Masonry is particularly good.
VERBAL BOUNDARY DESCRIPTION: The building sets just west of the principal intersection within the Stone Bluff Community with U.S. highway No. 64, and occupies property described as 4 acres in the NW, NW, NE, Sec. 8, T 16 N, R 15 E.
