Description:

The school building has two rooms and an attached gymnasium/auditorium. It is a rectangular (74′ x 113′) structure constructed of rusticated, cut and uncut native stone of auburn and buff colors. The school building has a flat roof with parapets, while the gynasium/auditorium has a stepped parapet roof. The door is recessed behind art deco style pilasters. Brick chimney stacks extend above the roof. Pilaster strips are at each window, making this structure unique in construction. There is a concrete addition on the east side and part of the south side of the structure. Windows have been filled in with wood and smaller, more energy-efficient windows have been added. The alterations impeach the architectural integrity of the building.
The building is significant because of the quality of workmanship, which is excellent. It is also unique in terms of type, style, scale, and materials used. Construction of this structure gave educational opportunities to many and also provided the unemployed the opportunity to work during the depression when such opportunities were scarce. Certainly the jobs generated by the construction of this structure helped maintain the pride of men who thereby found the means to support their hungry families.
