Description:

The bathhouse has three rooms and is a single-story, rectangular (18′ x 64′) structure constructed of uncut native stone of auburn and buff colors with beaded mortar. The masonry is random rubble. The center part of the roof is arched, while each side is flat. All parts have parapets. The entrance has two doors separated by the central arched portion of the building. There are two large windows on this central portion, and small windows extending to the eaves with new window panes. The strategic placement of the many different colors of stone raise the workmanship to the level of art. An addition has been attached to the north side of the bathhouse.
The swimming pool is constructed of concrete and is rectangular (153′ x 64′). A stone wall lining was built around this pool. A new fence has been added. The alterations do not impeach the architectural integrity of the pool or bathhouse.
The pool and bathhouse are significant because they reflect the broad construction the WPA gave to “useful” projects and because construction of them provided jobs for unskilled and unemployed laborers. The WPA infused wages of some 46,450 man-hours of labor into the local economy. The building is unique within the community because of its style, materials, type, and especially the artistic workmanship. Detailed masonry and imaginative placement of rock makes this building very unique within Drumwright.[1]
