Description:


Attucks school gym was built by WPA funds and served the African-American Community during segregation. This red brick building has a granite cornice over the main west entry doors, and large decorative brick squares in the west side walls. This building is the only remaining structure of the original site of Attucks school.

Architect: G.J. Cannon.

Fire gutted the school in 1945 after a boiler explosion.[2]

Notes:

Found two dates for entry into the National Register of Historic places, Jan 8, 1982 & Dec 4, 2017. Not sure which is correct date of entry.
