Description:

This school of four rooms is a single-story, rectangular (47′ x 73′) structure constructed of cut, coursed, rusticated, beaded native stone of buff color with a beaded masonry. Stone cut in large and small squares are strategically placed, making a unique design. There is a gabled roof with a center gable over the entry. All entrys are recessed behind archways. The windows reach to the eaves. The wellhouse still stands at the northeast corner of the building. All window openings are filled with wood inserts and the center gable on the roof contains a new cornice. The alterations do not impeach the integrity of the structure.
This WPA project is significant because construction of the school gave some economic security and useful work to unskilled and unemployed laborers in a remote and rural area, while infusing wages of some 30,600 man-hours of labor into the local economy. Educational possibilities were enhanced by the completion of this project. Architecturally it is unique in type, style, materials, and most notably, in workmanship and masonry.[1]
