Description:

Initially a two-room building, the Lodi School is a single story, rectangular (70′ x 29′) structure constructed of rusticated and coursed native sandstone. The hipped roof, now covered with composition shingles, has a central gable over the front porch which covers a recessed two-door entry way. Wood sash windows on the front rest between concrete sills and lintels. Window openings on the rear have been filled with wood inserts and smaller, metal sash windows inserted. The alteration does not impeach the original integrity of the structure.
Architecturally the building is unique in the community because of its type, Richardsonian style, scale, materials and workmanship. But the school building is especially significant because construction of it provided work opportunities and some economic security in a rural and remote area for unemployed laborers who had been made destitute by the depression. It also created a new environment conducive to learning for students theretofore deprived educationally.
