Description:

This single-story rectangular (26′ x 45′) structure contains two rooms. It is constructed of cut, coursed, and rusticated native stone of buff and auburn colors. The mortar is beaded. The roof is gabled. At either end of the front facade there are two entries recessed behind archways that have arched lentils made with strategically placed stones. The wood sash windows are placed in fours; the openings reach to the eaves and contain concrete sills. The top one-half of the windows have been covered with wood panels which serve as sun screens.
This building is significant because it is an outstanding example of a small rural school that was able to provide a more modern educational curriculum as a consequence of the work of the WPA. Equally important is that its construction provided job opportunities during the depths of the depression for unemployed and destitute workers, enabling them to provide for their families and to purchases goods and services that stimulated the local economy. Architecturally, the buildings stands as a remarkable and virtually untouched example of vernacular styles associated with the WPA building program.[1]
